Cultural Education:
Apparna Datta was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh, became involved in cultural education at the age of 3 years and 6 months from her mother Shadhana Mitra (Enlisted folk singer for BTV and Bangladesh Radio) and dance guru Anik Bose (BAFA teacher and dance director,BTV). Later on, she completed 8 years certification on dance from Bulbul Academy of Fine Arts (BAFA). At the same time, she learned Kathak dance from dance guru Munmun Ahmed(BTV, dance director). She achieved national award in folk dance and became enlisted dance artist in Bangladesh Television. She attended many workshops with Sri Birju Maharaj, one of the kathak legends in India. Apparna is an active performer for Kathak, Semi-Classical and folk dances and a front-line dance artist in Bangladesh Television.
Dance performance:
Performed in BTV, ETV, ATN, NTV and Channel-I more than 75 times in SOLO and group dances; participated in more than 300 stage programs in Bangladesh and SAARC countries. Also, performed several stage programs in the USA including FOBANA-2009, Upohar Mela and Bangladesh Embassy.
Awards:
She achieved more than 200 awards including National Award, BAFA Yearly Dance Competition (10 times), Nazrul Academy Award and Russel Award. After achieving the National Award, she was also recognized by Bangladesh Nritya Shilpi Goshthi for her highest accomplishment in dance.
Teaching Experience:
She was a dance teacher for ‘Nuton Kuri Academy’ in Dhaka. After coming to the USA, she started teaching dances at her home and joined Bangla School as a dance teacher. In summer, 2009, she formed Nupur Academy of Fine Arts(NAFA).
